Time for a reset

Sometimes in life you need a refresh - a sort of reboot to get your life back on track and re-prioritize when life's obligations start to take over. The fall season for me typically represents an opportunity for such a reset and this month I am taking more deliberate action to make it happen. The last six months have been a whirlwind. There have been so many amazing memories, travels, personal growth and dance adventures during this time and I look back with great joy of the hope and optimism of life as a newlywed.

So much life has been squeezed into a few months and some days, quite honestly, I've struggled to catch my breath. Like any season of life, there have also been moments of challenge and disappointment and there were times during the last six months when I felt like I had lost my sparkle and was searching for a beacon to find my path. During these difficult moments, I had to dig deep within my reserves to pull myself together.

Life is filled with ups and downs and it does really take effort and persistence to go after our dreams. And sometimes, in order to really say yes to something, we have to say no to something else. The thing is, it is really easy to get caught up in life, especially when our schedules are over-committed and we don't have any space to stop and think. But when caught in the whirlwind, we may lose our perspective of what's really important and sometimes we need to hit pause in order to get back on the proper footing. That's what I'm learning to do now.

As an over-achiever, it is easy for me to fill up my schedule, but I know that I am happy when I have down time - when I can approach at least some days without an agenda and when I can have time to write, to read and to dance. Giving myself permission and recognizing the need for space in my life has increased my clarity and helped me prioritize my life. It has also helped me create new habits to prepare for the experiences I hope to achieve, even if the path to achieving them is unclear. It's about learning to keep the faith, live with intention and make choices that support what is important and being okay saying no when an opportunity is not aligned with the greater purpose.

It's also about not letting past disappointments get in the way of the hope of future fulfillment. It's about turning back the clock to zero and starting over with a fresh perspective, attitude and outlook. I really do believe that everything in life happens in the proper time, even if it is hard to be patient during the process. Life is a journey and there are many unexpected moments that are thrown our way. Our opportunity lies in how we handle these moments and whether we are able to hit RESET when needed.
